In those days, when again a great crowd had gathered, and they had nothing to eat, he called his disciples to him and said to them, “I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way. And some of them have come from far away.” And his disciples answered him, “How can one feed these people with bread here in this desolate place?” And he asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven.” And he directed the crowd to sit down on the ground. And he took the seven loaves, and having given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and they set them before the crowd. And they had a few small fish. And having blessed them, he said that these also should be set before them. And they ate and were satisfied. And they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full. And there were about four thousand people. And he sent them away. And immediately he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the district of Dalmanutha.
Prayer Root: Word to Prayer
Heavenly Father,
People came from far away and sat with Jesus for three days, eager to hear His teaching, even though they had no food with them. I pray to You, Lord, that You give me that same sincerity, eagerness, interest, and discipline—to seek Jesus wholeheartedly, to go the distance to understand Scripture, to build a deep and personal relationship with Him, and to never grow tired of rejoicing in His teachings.
Even the disciples, though they had already witnessed You feeding the five thousand, struggled to understand how the crowd could be fed again. I pray to You, Lord, that I may always remember the things You have done—both in this world and in my own life—whenever I face challenges. May I never forget or doubt Your mighty power to do far beyond what I can ask or imagine.
Moved by compassion, You fed four thousand with just a few loaves of bread and fish, and after everyone had eaten, seven baskets were left over in abundance. I pray to You, Lord, that I always trust in Your provision and develop an abundance mindset rooted in faith, not fear. Help me believe that even what seems small in my hands—like the seven loaves—can become an instrument in Your hands.
Use me, Lord, to carry the gospel to the multitudes, to feed hungry souls with the good news, and to trust that You will satisfy their thirst for salvation according to Your grace and according to faith—both theirs and mine.
