Mark 11: 1-11 (The Triumphal Entry)

Scripture (ESV)

Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’” And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. And some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go. And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it. And many spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!” And he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple. And when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.

Prayer Root: Word to Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Jesus’ triumphant entry was not accidental, but a deliberate fulfillment of prophecy and Your divine plan. I pray, Lord, that You grant me wisdom to act intentionally—aligning my choices, actions, and behavior to fulfill Your will and bring glory to Your name on this earth.

I pray that You keep my heart humble, just as Jesus entered Jerusalem on a colt—a common work animal, not a royal steed—revealing a Savior who came to serve, to be approachable, and to reach ordinary people like me. Guard me from pride, and shape me with the humility of Christ.

Lord, I ask that You help me pursue peace and live in harmony with others, reflecting the peace symbolized by the donkey He rode—a sign not of war, but of reconciliation and gentleness. Let my life continually testify to Your peace.

Give me clarity and obedience, Father, like those who released the colt when they heard, “The Lord has need of it.” Teach me to surrender what I hold, trusting Your purpose even when I do not fully understand.

May I celebrate You with wholehearted devotion, like the crowd that spread their cloaks and branches before You—fully surrendering, inviting You into my heart, and allowing You to work Your will in every area of my life.

Raise me, Lord, with hearts of ‘Hosanna,’ aligning my cries with Your will. Even when my understanding is limited and my prayers are shaped by my own desires, realign my heart with Your plans. Teach me to seek not my will, but Yours alone.

Rooted in prayer, rejoicing in Christ.
