And they came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart. Get up; he is calling you.” And throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. And Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, “Rabbi, let me recover my sight.” And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.
Prayer Root: Word to Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Every healing performed by Jesus declares one truth clearly: it is faith that heals. Whether it was blind Bartimaeus, the woman with the issue of blood, the lepers, the centurion’s servant, or the Canaanite woman’s daughter, each miracle points to the power of faith placed fully in You.
I pray, Lord, that You would bless me with the same unwavering, unconditional, and unquestioning faith—faith that seeks You, follows You, calls out to You, and surrenders completely into Your hands.
Give me the strength and courage to cry out to You boldly, just as blind Bartimaeus did, even when he was rebuked by others. May I never fear rejection, opposition, or discouragement when running toward You. Let no voice silence my dependence on Your mercy.
I pray, Lord, that You would give me the same readiness to obey Your call—the eagerness Bartimaeus showed when he sprang up at Your voice. May I respond immediately and wholeheartedly when You call my name.
And Lord, help me remain faithful beyond the miracle. Just as Bartimaeus followed You after receiving his sight, may I not be one who rejoices in mercy and enjoys grace yet refuses to take up the cross. Teach me to follow You on the way—with gratitude, obedience, and lifelong surrender.
