What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God’s part? By no means!
For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.
For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”
So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills.

Heavenly Father,
Apostle Paul has beautifully quoted Scripture to remind us that everything is done by You alone, and we have neither the right to challenge nor the ability to control Your sovereign decisions, though we humbly seek understanding of Your ways. I pray, Lord, that I always remember this truth: mercy is what You choose to give, and compassion is what You choose to show. I cannot demand it. I cannot earn it. No effort of man can bring mercy, and no will of man can force compassion.
Lord, help me also understand that, just as Pharaoh played a role in the great story You were writing for the world, I too am simply a small part of the vast history You are unfolding. I pray that I play my part carefully—with respect, genuineness, sincerity, and humility—so that my life supports, builds, and furthers Your will on earth.
May I have the wisdom to recognize that I can lay no claims before You. I am the created; You are the Creator. I am entirely dependent on Your will, Your mercy, and Your purpose. Nothing in Your world moves apart from Your sovereign hand. I pray, Lord, that my heart surrenders completely to You—to Your will, to Your plans, to Your protection, and to Your provisions. Let my life be shaped only by Your mercy and carried fully by Your grace.
