When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”
But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.
“Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’”
Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.
Prayer Root: Word to Prayer
Heavenly Father,
From the very beginning, You spoke hope into humanity’s brokenness. “He will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” What was declared in Genesis, You fulfilled in Christ. Sin struck His heel through the cross, but He crushed the head of sin through His resurrection. The grave could not hold Him. Death was defeated. Victory was sealed forever.
Lord, I pray that my heart, mind, and soul truly believe in Your resurrection—that You are not a memory, not a symbol, not confined to a physical form, but the living God. You reign with supreme power, alive forevermore. Let this truth settle deeply within me—not merely as doctrine, but as living, active hope.
Give me the humility to recognize that You have solved my greatest problem—the finality of death. Because You rose, death no longer has the last word over me. Fear no longer defines my future. Hope now anchors my soul.
We are saved by grace alone, and salvation is a free gift You have given me. Lord, form in me a heart that understands I can never earn it. Strip me of pride and self-reliance, and teach me to humbly and joyfully receive what You have so graciously offered.
Let my heart never forget that this world was ruined by sin but rescued by Christ. Let me live as one who has crossed from death to life, from condemnation to justification, from bondage to grace. Let the life of Jesus Christ reign in me each day, shaping my character, choices, desires, and hope.
