But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. For before certain men came from James, he was eating with the Gentiles; but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing the circumcision party.[a] And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically along with him, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy. But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all, “If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?”
Prayer Root: Word to Prayer
Heavenly Father,
It is never easy to live by Your standards when the world constantly presses in — with its opinions, expectations, and pressures to conform. Even Peter, Cephas, who walked with You, once faltered under the weight of others’ judgments. He withdrew from fellowship out of fear of those who belonged to the circumcision party.
Lord, I pray that You strengthen my heart so that I do not give in to fear or compromise as Peter did. Let me not bend or compromise my walk with You for the sake of belonging or approval. If standing with You means standing alone, let me find peace in that solitude, because You are enough for me. Let my faith never be swayed by societal pressures or influenced by human standards.
And Father, grant me the courage of Paul — a boldness rooted in love and truth — to stand firm when I see Your gospel being misrepresented or lived contrary to Your will. Give me discernment to speak with grace but also with conviction, so that my words and actions always uphold the truth of Your Word.
Keep my heart steadfast, my spirit humble, and my loyalty fixed on You alone.
