Scripture (ESV)

And as they were eating, he took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to them, and said, ‘Take; this is my body.’ And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. And he said to them, ‘This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.’

Prayer Root: Word to Prayer

Heavenly Father,

The disciples may not have fully understood when You spoke of the body and the blood, but today we understand the weight and intensity of those words. I pray, Lord, that I never forget that You offered Your body to be broken and Your blood to be poured out to tear down the walls that separated us from God.

When Your body was broken, You broke every barrier that kept us from the Father. When You shed Your blood, You opened the way to eternal life and welcomed us into Your kingdom with open arms.

I pray, Lord, that my heart always remembers this truth. Anchor my life firmly in You, and help me live a Jesus-centered life each day. May I never take lightly what You have done for me. Help me remember that all I have is because of Your mercy and grace, and teach me to live in a way that honors Your supreme sacrifice for me.

Rooted in prayer, rejoicing in Christ.
