And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’” And he said to him, “Teacher, all these I have kept from my youth.” And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

Heavenly Father,
The one thing lacking in a person’s life often becomes the greatest barrier to total surrender. For some it is wealth; for others it may be status, intellectual pride, or a particular relationship. As long as I cling to anything other than You, complete surrender remains impossible.
I pray, Lord, that my heart would truly understand that the only source of true goodness is God. Goodness is not a human achievement, and eternal life is not earned through outward obedience or task completion, as the man believed when he answered Jesus. It comes only through Your mercy and grace, received by unwavering faith.
I pray, Lord, that You would love me as You loved that man—by speaking truth with holy precision, even when it is difficult to hear. Guide me, Lord, that I may never make possessions or status an idol in my life. Let everything I have serve the purpose of glorifying You.
May my heart always remember that inheritance cannot be earned, but only received, and that true life is found in surrendering all to You.
