Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.

Heavenly Father,
It is no wonder that You went first to fishermen when You said, “Follow Me.” For fishermen are those who know patience—the kind that waits long hours to catch even a single fish. They are brave, venturing into deep and uncertain waters where danger often lurks, yet they go with courage because their trust is greater than their fear. Fishermen are skilled negotiators, working honestly in the marketplace to make a living. And they are believers in daily provision, for they cannot store dead fish for long; they must trust that the ocean will provide anew each day.
So it is no wonder, Lord, that though it seemed You called humble fishermen, You truly saw in them the qualities needed to build Your kingdom—patience, courage, faith, and trust. You knew that these men, once surrendered to You, would become fishers of souls, drawing people into the net of salvation.
Father, I pray that You give me the obedience of Simon, Andrew, James, and John—the kind of obedience that leaves everything behind the moment You call. Let me not hesitate when You speak my name, but rise immediately to follow Your voice. Give me a heart that longs to serve You, wisdom that reflects Your truth, and a spirit willing to go wherever You lead.
Make me a fisher of men, Lord—one who patiently, faithfully, and lovingly turns hearts toward You. Let my life point others to the only way to the Father, the only way to salvation—You, my Lord Jesus Christ.
