Scripture (ESV)
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
Prayer Root: Word to Prayer
Heavenly Father,
We are constantly faced with a tremendous choice—to offer ourselves as instruments in Your hands or to become instruments in the hands of sin. I pray, Lord, that You stay with me and continually course-correct every thought, action, and word so that I am always Your instrument and never an instrument of sin.
When You desire a work to be done, let me be Your hands and feet—carrying out Your will and not the desires of sin. When You want a word spoken, let my mouth be used to uplift, encourage, and strengthen the spirit in others. Guard me from being enslaved by sin so that I never speak words that wound or harm. Protect me, Lord, and help me live worthy of the gift of love that is You.
Dear Lord, may my obedience never come from fear, but from inspiration—from the love You have already shown me and the grace You have poured over my life. Let me not be ruled by the desires of my mortal body or by the expectations of this material world. Help me remember always that I do not live under law but under Your mercy and Your grace.
Rooted in prayer, rejoicing in Christ.
