The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
As it is written in Isaiah the prophet,
“Behold, I send my messenger before your face,
who will prepare your way,
the voice of one crying in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight,’”
John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And all the country of Judea and all Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel’s hair and wore a leather belt around his waist and ate locusts and wild honey. And he preached, saying, “After me comes he who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

Heavenly Father,
Like John, I confess that I am no one of worldly value or greatness — only Your humble and faithful servant. My worth is found in You alone. I am the voice that calls Your name in times of challenge, the heart that rejoices in Your presence, the hands and feet that strive to carry forth Your mission on earth, and the soul that belongs wholly to You.
I pray to You, Lord, that just as John baptized with water for repentance, You would bless me with a heart that continually turns away from sin and remains soft before You. Teach me to walk in humility, aligning my every thought and action with Your divine will.
Let my life prepare the way for others to meet You, Jesus — the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. May I never seek my own glory but always point others to Yours. Help me to serve faithfully, speak truth boldly, and live each day in the light of Your grace.
