Scripture (ESV)
For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin. For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.
Prayer Root: Word to Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Like Apostle Paul says, I am a creature of flesh and blood—weak, vulnerable, and easily pulled into the power of sin. As a human being, it is so easy for me to hide behind the seduction of the flesh, and I see how quickly my heart can drift in the wrong direction.
Lord, I pray that You give me the wisdom and understanding—the clarity to recognize what is right, and the strength to put that knowledge into action. Teach me, guide me, and help me live out what You reveal to me.
Dear Lord, grant me the adequacy of resolution—a steadfast will that chooses what is right even when it is uncomfortable, even when it leads to difficulties, resistance, or challenges. Strengthen me so that I do not falter in pursuing what is good and pleasing to You.
Dear Lord, help me overcome the human limitation of trying to fix what is wrong by my own strength. I confess that I cannot put the wrong things right—but You can. Please correct my wrongs, reshape my heart, and give me the wisdom to surrender fully to You. Help me accept Your help in transforming my human nature, which so easily drifts under the law of sin and becomes captivated by it. Please deliver me from this captivity and lead me into a life formed, purified, and strengthened by Christ. Let my mind, heart, and body be aligned to Your will so that I may walk in freedom and righteousness through the power of Jesus.
Rooted in prayer, rejoicing in Christ.
