Scripture (ESV)
And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”
Prayer Root: Word to Prayer
Heavenly Father,
You have always looked at the heart of Your people and never at what they are able to bring You materially. You see what is hidden, You measure sacrifice, and You honor faith that trusts You fully.
I pray, Lord, that You give me a heart like that of the widow—one that trusts You even when there is little to give, one that does not depend on human support, and one that offers generously despite the cost. Teach me to release what I hold tightly, trusting that all I have comes from You.
Lord, shape my generosity beyond finances alone. May I be generous in proclaiming Your glory, generous with my time to help those in need, generous with my efforts to uplift, restore, and encourage others. Make me generous in my thoughts, so that I live with an abundance mindset rather than fear or scarcity. Make me generous in proclaiming Your glory, in giving my time, and in serving those in need.
Let my giving—seen and unseen—be an act of worship that pleases You. May my life reflect trust in You, joy in surrender, and generosity that flows from a grateful heart.
Rooted in prayer, rejoicing in Christ.
