He went away from there and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him. And on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.” And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. And he marveled because of their unbelief. And he went about among the villages teaching.
Prayer Root: Word to Prayer
Heavenly Father,
You are the mighty God who created the mountains and calmed the storm, yet You never force Yourself upon anyone. You are a loving God who holds out an open hand—full of mercy, grace, and compassion—allowing each person the freedom to choose You. And when we come to You through Jesus Christ, You give the eternal gift of salvation.
Lord, I pray that You never allow my heart to fall into the trap of familiarity breeding contempt. Let my faith in You always surpass my mere knowledge about You. Guard my heart so that it never strays, never doubts, and never drifts away from the truth that Jesus, Your Son, took on fully human form for my sake. You took on fully human form for my sake, suffered for me, died on the cross to conquer sin, and rose again to open the way to God and the forgiveness of sins.
May I never take this sacrifice lightly. Let reverence, gratitude, and awe mark my walk with You every day. Guide me to live out this faith in every decision I make, honoring You not just with my words, but with my trust, obedience, and surrendered life.
