One Sabbath he was going through the grainfields, and as they made their way, his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. And the Pharisees were saying to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did, when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God, in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those who were with him?” And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”

Heavenly Father,
How profound are Your words when You said, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” As Lord of the Sabbath, You revealed Your heart of compassion—that You look beyond rules and rituals to see the true needs of Your children.
Lord, You never defied the divine law, but You challenged the man-made restrictions that obscured mercy. You reminded us that obedience to You is not about rigid observance, but about love, compassion, and the heart that seeks to do good.
Dear Lord, I pray that You grant me the wisdom to discern when to uphold the law and when to extend grace. Teach me to see through Your eyes—where love fulfils the law and compassion completes obedience.
Please guide my spirit, Lord, in every decision I make. Let each choice I take perfectly align with Your will and not with human expectation. May my actions honor both truth and mercy, and may my life reflect the balance of grace and righteousness that You exemplified.
